Hockey Puck Dealer Button

2011.07.24

BUTTON WHITE

Anything can be used as a dealer button.  An odd chip, a nik nak, or an ashtray.  Fact of the matter is there is seldom any need to use anything other than an actual dealer button.   Because it seems that every cheesy poker chip set made comes with one of those dinky little dealer buttons.  Now don’t get me wrong, until recently this is what I’ve used in my garage games.

About a year or two ago we started using a dedicated dealer from time to time in my home game.  Until then we’ve always rotated the deal so there was never any need for a dealer button.  Having not ever given much though to it, the only dealer button at hand was the before mentioned “dinky” type.  Being a host that avoids using anything that would be considered “cheesy” in my games, I’d always though that standard size 2” diameter dealer button looked a little sub-standard on my table.  In hind sight one of my casino paperweights would have made a fantastic dealer button!

Although I wasn’t obsessed with it, I had it in the back of my head that a hockey puck would be about the right size for a dealer button.  In fact I went looking through what I could find of my sons old hockey stuff trying to see if I could find a hockey puck!  No luck.

At this point I’d like to mention that I have an affiliate connection with Discount Poker Outlet.  And least I be accused of being a shameless whore for writing an article about a product from DPO, I’ll add that I assume that nice dealer buttons can be gotten from a great many suppliers of poker equipment.

The hockey puck dealer button has been a big hit at the game.  It doesn’t get lost in a pile of chips and has more of a presence at the table.  And I’ve also noticed that the players tend to take ownership of it when their on the button.  The button has two sides, black on white, and white on black.  When it moves the new “owner” will flip it to their favorite side.  All of this means that the button moves around the table more smoothly.

For such a small investment the hockey puck dealer button has been a dynamite addition to my poker table.  It will spice up any table and is a real attention getter.  They are only a few dollars apiece.  To reduce the shipping cost pet item I’d recommend getting together a order for your whole club or group or; use them as gifts.  Aynone who plays, deals or hosts games  will love them!  I would recommend that you get one into your game ASAP!  Hopefully from DPO!BUTTON BLACK
